Nightly Confirmation

Boy #1 shut-eye and horizontal in his bed smiles his big crooked-tooth grin. He is faking slumber. Simultaneously making a silent plea to let his dirty teeth alone and taking the 5th as his brother desperately searches for his blankie.

Boy #2 Spinning, whirling, contorting on his bed. He is a twinkle-eyed fountain of wants, “I want another bedtime snack, I want to read another book, I want to telly Penny goodnight again, I want another hug…”

They are doing everything except what they ought to be doing; confirming that we, despite our occasional beliefs otherwise, are raising humans.
